"a few were taken to a hospital. But Smith says there were no serious problems." I think most people would consider being taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion a "serious problem". Not that it is in any way the Twins fault, and they were obviously treated appropriately. But for goodness sake can we stop with the constant spin and doublespeak which seems to permeate this organization?

I wouldn't consider being taken to the hospital automatically means a "serious problem". People are taken to the hospital for precautionary measures all the time. They are checked out treated and released. Do you know that if you are in a minor car accident and your airbag deploys they are required to take you to the hospital to get checked out? Personally I would rather have them be overly cautious and take me to the hospital for a minor problem than to have a them say you are fine and send me on my way when I actually do have a serious problem.

My point is that heat illness is not something to be taken casually, and despite the Twins rep tossing off "nothing serious" by all accounts there were 25 -30 people who wished they had never gone to the game including a few that ended up at the hospital. The only likely reason you would be sent to the hospital is if you were continuing to have symptoms (nausea, dizziness, tachycardia, etc - likely heat exhaustion) and required IV fluids. Heat exhaustion if untreated can become heat stroke which is life threatening. It would have been nice to hear a note of caution (the elderly and those with other medical illness are more prone to heat illness) but of course his main concern is attendance - nothing serious, don't worry about it, come on down tonight, we have free water available (current temp in Minneapolis 98, heat index 118).
