The Hall of Famer and former Twin had a similar banner day when he reached 3,000 career hits back in 1996.

I think it should read "Former Twin and Hall of Famer.." But, what can you expect from someone that's 147 years old??

It's nice to see Jeter show respect, or lack there of, to the fans by skipping the All Star game, I guess it shows how much he respects the game and the fans that made him very rich. Nice touch Jeter.

3,000 hits is great, but can't be compared to players from earlier. They played far fewer games per year. Go back in the records and see for yourself just how many games made a season. Many great players from those era's would also have had 3,000 hits had they played 162 games per year. How many will have them if they add 40 more games to a season in the future, although that probably won't happen, but you see what I mean.

bryankj not sure what article you're reading...it does says grandson in the article. "The 2011 U.S. Under-18 Select team roster was announced Thursday and Louie Nanne, the grandson of Minnesota hockey legend Lou Nanne"

Molitor will always be my favorite 3K hitter. jeter is what's wrong with baseball. plays average defense, hits above average and gets his name in the social papers every weeek with a different chick. pretty sure I dont want that role model for my kids.

The Games Played stat doesn't matter; it's the At Bat's that matter. Jeter's Hits Per At Bat (1 for every 3.19) is right up there with several other 3,000 hit club members and better than Molitor's (1 for every 3.24).
