You're kidding me right. $70k to the birds!? It's no wonder we're broke when the federal government is funding garbage like this. You understand that $70k fed grant comes from either China or your taxes!

Dang and I was counting on those wings for dinner. Again people if all was right with the world it would be a grand idea.. however your making choices for animals over humans. I think if GOD would have wanted that he would have given them vocal cords.

We are broke because George bush lowered taxes and regulation...causising a financial meltdown. I'd rather give money to birds than wall street

I love birds and nature too, but c'mon. Every time I am about to be convinced that it may be time to stop all the rhetoric about making government live within its means, a story like this comes along.

To all of those opposed please remember that a similar project brought the bald eagle back from the brink of extinction. These magnificent creatures which are a symbol of America's freedom would not be here today if not for similar measures.

I'm in debt up to my eyebrows, my credit card is maxed, my credit rating is about to go down the tubes and Ford is threatening to repo my van. But, hey-I think I'll spend a couple hundred to improve the bird habitat in my backyard. May as well enjoy the birds while I have a backyard.

And its always the same record being played over and over. "But its such a great program and it only costs (blank)." In the end we are nickled and dimed into a 14.6 trillion dollar debt and subsequently we have to be discussing a funding cut for your Grandma's medicare.

Why do local governement go so gaga over spending our tax dollars when it is a "grant". Like that is "other" people's money? I live in a small township in northern mn. Because there is a big lake there with lots of non-homesteaders that cannot vote, our town board members like to spend money like drunken sailors. They remodeled the kitchen that is used twice a year for spaghetti sauce and installed a top of the line Viking stove. Now they are looking for a matching 50K grant for a tennis court,so that 6 women can play tennis. There is free tennis at 3 locations within 30 miles. Get in the car ladies. Stop spending ANY MONEY on "wants". Our needs are much less than our wants.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife continue on a spending spree buying good Agriculture land for higher prices than what young farmers are willing or can pay. Some of this lands has been bought from The Nature Conservancy. It makes no sense when our government is broke, our State is broke and our citizens are suffering to keep spending money on birds. I guess the big powerful lobbying group of Sportsman can get what they want while the rest of us can not even pay our bills! God will get you for that!
