Gehlen, unmoved, continued loudly. "Put the vise grip on the hose, and shut it down," he said. "I don't count on the government." ------------ another ridiculous example of an it-doesn't-affect-me-so-it-must-not-affect-anyone mentality. Well, the kids I just taught for two weeks to help them pass the state reading test can't take that test because the state is shut down. So technically, yeah, the state shutdown doesn't affect me, but is sure affects others.

The only problem I have is the state shutdown won't let me run a driver's license check on a new hire. He can't clear his background check.

It kills the Strib to concede that 99% of Minnesotans continue to thrive without the state bureaucracy in motion. We all know it.

I say we cut all these services and let all those families and disabled people start begging in downtown and on Main Street in all the little cities across the state. You never really know who it's helping/keeping off the streets because you never see them ON the streets. I bet we're all 3 degrees from knowing someone who needs aid. How could we not? It's a large percentage of the population.

Living out in the country, there is plenty of living space for the workers. Contrast that with the metro, there's plenty of working space but not enough living space. Our leader, Mark Dayton, will change that through the redistribution of Minnesota's wealth!

Hutchinson has had to tough it out with the ups and downs of HTI. It is rural Minnesota and they have learned to do with less--like the government should learn to do.

It is sad that people like Gehlen are so self-centered and really do not give a damn about anybody but themselves. How about when he needs medical assistance someday , what then?

I agree 100%. Shut down the State for a year. Then we will have a $34B surplus. Then we can go back to giving money away. How bout starting with giving it back to property owning taxpayers?????

It must be nice to view the shut down as a mere and slight inconvenience....nice job of trivializing the shutdown's impact, I'm sure the 22,000 unemployed public service workers appreciate the apathy as well....

It sounds like mccleod county won't need any transportation projects for the foreseeable future. They don't need government so let's move those projects somewhere else. Maybe tear out a few stoplights and road signs too, they don't need those socialist things taking away their freedom.
