The lineup has been shot full of injury holes all year, there wasn't supposed to be any help ready from the minor leagues, the new bullpen looked like it was a lost cause, and recent trades looked like they favored everyone but us. All of that and we remain within striking range of 1st place because no team is running away from the pack. Does Gardenhire ever get enough credit?

Capps did not have an "impressive 9th". Two balls were hit to the track. He has a great arm but he is not a great closer. He does not walk anyone, which is great but he pitches to contact with a great sinking fastball and does not have a strikeout pitch. That sounds like a great setup guy. He needs to set up Nathan or Perkins and we would be in great shape. Nathan is looking like his old self and Perkins does not look anything like his old self! Please stop giving the ball to Capps as the closer or we will have more blown saves.

Oh and one more thing...make Tom Kelly the manager.

Nathan looked really solid tonight in the 8th. His fastball was 93-94, and he was hitting his spots. Capps was throwing 92, down the middle, and getting taken to the warning track. I really think the switch to AT LEAST a committee, is warranted if the Twins really want to make a run.

Tom Kelly, with Rod Carew as hitting coach and Bert as pitching coach!

Anyone griping about Capps' warning track shots better not have been a fan of Jeff Reardon. He allowed more loud outs per save than any Twins' reliever - and check out those HR totals against him in '87. Peeps gots short memories.
