And "the good life" only can be found through compromise. We compromise daily within our families and our workplaces. We wouldn't have harmonious relationships if we didn't.

the reason Minny is so great is that the cold weather keeps the riff raff out.

To me, the value comes from reality, which is where I think the author ends up. It shouldn't be about projecting an image, but expressing reality, in my opinion. I just read Luntz's "Words that Work", which I found infuriating and a great example of why our politics have become so superficial and polarized... so maybe I'm biased.

Is it just me or is the state shutdown of 2011 getting infinitely more national press than the state shutdown of 2005 did?

Like anyone cares about the shutdown across the country. "Wont be easily repaired"???? Good lord, how melodramatic.

"You get what you pay for in Minnesota -- you pay for this good life."

It amazes me that so many people have been brainwashed over the last 30 years into thinking that you can have it all without worrying about how to pay for it.

We all know Surly costs more than Busch and there's a reason for it. People pay more for Cadillacs and BMWs than they pay for Chevys and they're OK with that, too. They don't crab about how Surly "must be paying too much for hops" or that "Cadillac parts are too expensive because you can find the same part on a Chevy". It's a fair deal. Don't like it? Drink the cheap stuff. Or move to some state like Alabama or Texas where you get next to nothing for the next to nothing you pay.

Minnesota is now getting publicity on how we are already one of the most heavily taxed states in the nation. That should help us attract business to the state. Great job Governor!
