Louis Hauser, once afflicted with polio, started riding his bike around the lake every morning about 40 years ago and has rarely missed a day of exercise since.

The article states that Mr. Hauser heard about post-polio syndrome when he was six. For the record, post-polio syndrome was not named until the early 1980s. It is true that some have encouraged polio people NOT to exercise at all and that has been to the detriment of some. It is good to see that Mr. Hauser has found what works for him.
