Using an old first baseman's mitt owned by Michael Cuddyer, Joe Mauer took grounders at first base Monday afternoon as manager Ron Gardenhire looked on and offered some tips.

Gardy told Mauer several days ago to go get a first baseman's mitt and he's using Michael Cuddyer's old one!?!?! Who's running this team anway??? Ooopps, I forgot, Mauer may not have the money for a new glove.

"I'm a catcher. That's what I signed to do and things like that. Given the circumstances, [if] I can play over there a couple days, here and there, that would be a good thing. "But I wouldn't take it much more than that." .......WOW JOE, way to jump in and help the Twins! Cuddy plays where ever the team needs him to play to give the TEAM the best chance to win....instead of saying "I'm a catcher" maybe try "I'M A TEAM PLAYER."

This is what people were screaming at him him to do days ago and now he's doing it and already people are pissed at him cause he's not doing it right or saying the right things. I'm as frustrated with him (and the Twins in general) as everyone else, but this is a GOOD THING.

I think he likes the potential position switch. Down 15-0, in the 9th inning, he was laughing it up with Morneau and Cappy. Glad to see he cares.

billandnike.. right, "I wouldn't take it much more than that". Does that mean he would quit if he had to play first half the time?? or demand a trade?? Just lately I posted the question..Who is steering the boat?? I think we got the answer. Anyone else a bit stunned at the "I signed to be a cather" statement? I thought he signed to play ball and be a Twin..Sorry Joe, but I think lots of us just qiuickly slid off your bandwagon.

Watching the mirth and shenanigans among the "leaders" in the Twins' dugout during this most recent fiasco, one has to wonder if anyone on this team, players and coaches, really care. One team came into this game "bankrupt", the other team was the MN Twins....and that's pathetic! Someone better get fired and soon!!

This team is not a team right now and Smith better be selling at the trade deadline. Nothing on this team says team, not even the golden child Mauer. Buck up and be that leader we need and become a true team player.

Will not sleep all night knowing he took grounders. Suppose that calls for a day off!!! The M and M boys seemed real shook up about the final outcome. What a sick state of affairs.

Mauer take ground balls at first base? Cant wait to see how much time he will miss playing first base. Being a catcher all he has to do is squat and catch the ball and he misses playing time. Really? Gardenhire you need to grow a pair and tell these fragile millionaires to suck it up and do their job for the team and the fans that watch the game and stop worrying about their bank accounts and huge contracts and commercials they do. I get it that Mauer is from Minnesota, but if he is not doing what he is getting the big $$$$$ for, time to go and take his side burns with him.
