With his bold trade of Brent Burns, Wild GM Chuck Fletcher made it clear free agency will take a back seat to homegrown talent.

Sad to lose Burns, but you have to be excited about the players the Wild recieved. HF had Coyle as the Sharks #1 prospect. The last two drafts have brought 3 first round forwards 1 first round defenseman and 4 second round forwards. It's easy for me to say because I'm not a season ticket holder, but I can't wait to see this team in 3 years.

Honestly...two-three years...this club will look great. It's crazy to think just a year a month ago we did not have Granlund, Bulmer, Zucker, Gustafsson, Larsson, Brodin, Phillips, Coyle, Lucia. Now we have Gucci Mane. While the team isn't playoff run ready it will be interesting to see the look of PMB-Koivu-Gucci and then Gui-Brodz-Havlat then Gillies- Cullen- Clutter.

"Jonas Brodin, thought by some to be the best skater in the draft."? I have read most of the reviews on this player and this is the first time I have heard that. Seems like a stretch, but I hope it's true...

Like Fletcher and the direction of this franchise. Only question: Who will take care of the reptiles while Burnsie relocates? Gonna miss Burnsie for sure.

It seems like Devin Setoguchi scored a goal in every game he played against the Wild. Nice work Chuck Fletcher. Kudos, I think, must be in order for Brent Flair too these last couple drafts.

anyone who does not like the direction this team is going, and what fletcher is trying to do is blind on how to build a quality franchise. look at boston, pittsburgh, detroit those teams build through the draft and don't make snap decisions so a team can lose in the first round to say we made the playoffs. great trade on day 1 of the draft HAVE SOME PATIENCE EVERYONE!!!

Gee, it only took a full 2 years to decide what to do with the francise? Wild's 'ship adrift' may finally have decided to use a compass. In a competitive world though, every day you don't improve- you're two days behind. Wild is now 4 years behind where they were 2 years ago. I sincerely hope for Wild fans that management does something entertaining for them during the next few losing years. They DO have a 'crackerjack' marketing staff though - maybe they can do ice bowling between the numerous 2nd period intermissions where they will face 4-1 deficits as they return to the ice for the 3rd periods? I know the tickets won't be any cheaper for what will be a glorified minor league product for a couple of years. Losing has been so very 'corporate' with Wild the past few years. Finally, how happy will 'D. Seto' be here? He was a few games over a few years away from playing for the Cup. There's no Joe Thornton or Patrick Marleau as team mates on the horizon in MN. Having lived the 'NorthStar lifestyle', Wild fans can expect them to be like the N's in about year 10-11. It won't be pretty. Good luck to Burns. He may be the luckiest player in the trade.

What, no mention of Burns liabilities which are equivalent to or outweigh his assets? With Burns gone, and Bruno likely as well, who is Russo going to comments from besides CC?

what's sad and frustrating is that Risebrough's plan was supposed to be draft and develop, and he started to do that, and then just gave up. I really hope Fletcher keeps up with this and builds a team that can contend. I gave up my season tickets this summer because it's too expensive, and I can't take the futility anymore. I really hope Fletcher makes me regret that decision.
