'Cars 2': A dull ride

This Pixar sequel has some great voices and looks OK, but it goes from 0 to 60 in two hours.

"To make a great movie, start with a great story" See the silent portion of UP and the dialogue of Star Wars franchise for good and poor ways to tell a story. The HEART of a movie doesn't depend on cutting edge visuals. For my money, a great writer could write a silent movie. A poor writer would hire special effects.

Colin, I suppose it had to happen. Granted, some of Pixar's releases are better than others, and everyone has their favorites (thank you for mentioning "The Incredibles"). I do think we all knew there had to be one that stumbled on release, it just took the twelfth film to do it (wasn't Judas the 12th apostle...perhaps that is too deep).

I'll be interested to read the review after seeing the movie today. I'm sure it is possible that Pixar will miss on one of these films, but thankfully for my anticipated enjoyment of this one, Colin has very little credibility as a reviewer...

My kids and I saw the movie yesterday. They loved it. Sig Hansen's cameo is awesome!

haven't seen Cars 2 yet, but I - and especially my now-seven-year-old son - loved Cars. and i wouldn't put much stock in this person's review in that he, first, calls the first Cars' Lightning McQueen a "stuck-up sophisticate", when he was really an insecure non-sophisticate trying to fake it as a rookie on the top, pro tour (sorry, i've seen Cars a million times now. know the story too well, i guess). and the review here goes on to claim that "The first film was a gentle satire of salt-of-the-earth Americans -- and by extension the audience...". this, too, was and is hardly the case. it had fun with the characters, but it wasn't satirizing them. anyone who thinks Cars was a satire of its characters AND of the audience (it was a celebration of people more than a mockery of anyone - anyone, that is, except for the selfish, greedy and stubborn of the world) isn't someone whose opinion on its sequel is to be trusted. will take my son to Cars 2 and let his review be the end-all. based on the original Cars, i'd suggest anyone else with a young person in their lives do the same.

Seems like no one is ready to blame Disney for starting this slog of uninspiring sequels that Pixar did so well to limit/avoid.

I didn't really understand the staying power of the first Cars, but i'm not a little kid, so I leave the ultimate judgement to them.

I do not see why everyone loved "Wall-E". I found it boring and extremely preachy. Having a daughter who grew up on Toy Story and is now getting ready to leave for college, I cried like a baby during Toy Story 3.

Lasseter revamped the whole story, the whole bad guy arc. He crafted the plot to be a good vs evil story against big oil. Another example of Hollywood pushing their agenda. That's what makes this story so boring. Movie goers don't want to be preached at for 90 minutes.
