Tenney has been receiving L.G.A. (local government aid) from your tax dollars. This should help the state budget next year. Next there are about 400 more little towns to disolve.

My uncle Al used to be the postmaster of Tenney. It was a great little town - sad to see it be no more!

LGA will not just "disappear" and save the State money. It will be reallocated to the township or County as they are now responsible for the infrastructure, etc. Even if their LGA was saved, it amounted to a little over $1,000 per year, or in other words $0.000189 per capita. With savings like that we should cut taxes!!!

Superb headline. And a practical decision by the town residents. Now if we could get some agreements at the county level for combining those with smaller populations, perhaps administrative costs overall would decline.

Tietac, I looked up the amount of LGA they received $774 in 2010 and $1042 in 2009. That is going to take care of the budget crunch in moments. Do some reasearch before you make statements.

Why does a town with 5 or 6 residents need a community center?

As I read this story I couldn't help but wonder why we don't use more sophisticated language to describe all the various communities in our midst. I grew up knowing that a community like this would be called a HAMLET. Larger communities would be called VILLAGES, then TOWNS and finally when communities reach a certain threshold they are called CITIES. To call Tenney a city is just silly, when we refer to the TC's with the same term. Let's try language that fits the situation. We have specific language for people ie babies, toddlers, children, adults and schools ie elementary, middle, junior and secondary. Think about it.

I'd consider moving to Funkley just so I could say I live in a town called Funkley.

I've been to this town. It's the closest I've ever come to seeing an abandoned ghost town in Minnesota. There are still about 15 or 20 long-ago abandoned homes and unmowed grass. It's kind of eerie driving through, with the only people living there in a couple trailer houses in the middle of town. Still sad to hear it's dissolving.
