Hopefully this good news continue now with the vikings offering 30M more to equal up to 437M and Ramsey county with 350M and state with 300M now it looks like 100M gap to spare for the roads. This bill would help the state get 1.3 Billion after the 300M investment. Great job Dayton with trying to get this bill through. Lets get this bill passed

To add on to kevins comment the vikings are now giving 41.5% and the public money is giving 58.5% but the state will earn its money back after interest and the $300 Million itself by year 15. This will make the state debt free for the Vikings stadium and for the next 15 years the state would gain profit. Skol Vikings Get this stadium build!!!

Nothing like a billion dollar stadium that will include a viking's Hall of Fame, only problem is that there is still NO Super Bowl trophy for the fans to adore. An empty trophy case is not something we want to pass along to future generations. How about us true homers take care of that business first so we can end the humiliating purple jinx!!!

Looks like a BACK DOOR job going on here. The Viking say they will increase the money, they will put in the pot. But there is still alot of questions that need to be answered before this will pass the muster. Just like the twins this will be a BACK DOOR Job

@ purplegod The Indianapolis Colts agreed in 2004 to build a billion dollar stadium. In 2006 the team won the Super Bowl. In 2012 the city of Indianpolis will host the Super Bowl. The impact of that will be in the hundreds of millions. Imagine all the parks and roads that will be built or improved with that money. That money doesn't go to the Colts. The only money they get is 1/32 of the money generated from the tickets, concessions, and merchandise sold.

Nice reporting Sid. One thing I have learned over the years, is not to read what was said, but to think about what was not said. I expected to hear the funding sources after I did the math and the numbers presented did NOT add up. Someone is going to paying some real money for this, and there is no disclosure of whom in this article. The only advice is to beware. There isn't one person reading this, that would sign a contract without reading the entire contract from beginning to end and with total understanding as well. I don't see any of that in this column.

First of all, the Republican leadership of the House & Senate have not gotten involved in the stadium issue and won't until the budget is settled. Lanning and Rosen and their stadium bill are simply "place holders." Second... the ultimate stadium bill cannot have any "new" state taxes (the Lanning/Rosen bill has four and a special lottery) and there cannot be a referendum "waiver" for the county's funding. Conflicting pledges need to be overcome... the Republican's "no-new-taxes" pledge vs. the governor's "no-general-fund-money" pledge.

$30 million is small change compared to the massive shortfall due to the recalculation of memorabilia tax income and the likely loss of the planned "special tax" on players and others. This is why you're now hearing far fewer confident statements from Sen. Rosen and others. Add to that all the opposition from Mayor Coleman and the St. Paul City Council and it's hard to see this passing through the first committee hearing.
