The 2011 Twins can't even measure up to the famed 2006 Piranhas, but they have found a new way to win.

Great column. Evokes a lot of mental pictures that would be great on T-shirts.

I don't think the term "piranhas" came up until a year or two later after Hunter had left. that 2006 team was not a piranhas team.

Obviously our power game isn't what it was even back then when everyone was complaining about the lack of power. The piranhas though seem to be faster and better hitters. I'll take Span, Revere, Casilla and Nishioka over Castillo, Punto, Tyner and Bartlett. Hitting not much different but they just seem a lot faster. Accourding to Wikepedia, Souhan has it right. 2006 was the piranha team and Hunter was on it.

"Sardines", good one. But the way they were playing the first two months, I called them "Smelt".

"They are about to be joined by Mauer, whose $23 million salary is more than what every player in the Thursday lineup makes, combined." We need to continue to lower the income tax rate on guys like Mauer, so he can continue to create jobs for the rest of us. Go GOP!

Piranhas I could live with. Sardinas? Not so much. Regardless, when you start throwing around new nicknames, it means that good things are happening.

BallFour: You're right. This column didn't have much coherence. Reusse, at least when he writes about baseball, is excellent.

Yes, "the starters." Does any of them besides Blackburn have a name? Or cute nickname like the stealth starting staff?
