What happened is that he became popular for more than just talking through his butt. As amazing as Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, Dumb & Dumber, and all of the great ones were. I think we are forgetting how versitile Mr. Carrey is. He is a man of many hats. He killed it in the Truman Show- his first of many serious roles to play. The world begin to see a different side of him. I personally enjoy his soft and sentimental side just as much as his wild side. Have you seen Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind? You should if you haven't. I think his ability to transform roles says a little more than actors like Vin Diesel who always play the same, predictible role in every movie. What's wroong with good clean family humor? This movie is neither lame or flightless. Jim Carey does an excellent job & all the kids & adults around me were laughing & enjoying themselves. A great family for the WHOLE family. What the heck is wrong with that?
