Hmmm ... one thing they could do to help unclog I94 traffic would be to repave the third-world-style roads the people must drive upon in order to access I94, like the one south of the Lyndale entrance/exit, which quite literally has more patches than original road surface. Why are we spending money on studies and light-rail that will benefit a small minority of people while much of the city's existing infrastructure is in collapse?

If they really wanted to help out with things in Minneapolis, they should probably look where the ENTIRE downtown traffic gets on 3rd Ave and it merges with 1 lane of 394 onto I-94W. It goes from 3 lanes, to 1 lane and you wanna talk about congestion...try getting on that thing at rushhour and see how long it takes considering only about 60% of the people know how to properly zipper down the road while the busses take the shoulder and slow up the front of the line. That is the worst bottleneck to an on-ramp I have seen in the United States.

We need to move into the 21st century and stop relying on cars for commuting where there are good alternatives. We need to consider more rail corridors.

The article doesn't say how much Wisconsin is contributing to the study. How about just putting in a toll at the border since half of the traffic is from Wisc. One-third of the vehicles that I see on 694 in the East Metro have Wisc. license plates.

What is there to study? The existing buses and park & rides are packed. That would seem to indicate that people are supporting mass transit, the problem is lack of availability. Rent out a chunk of the lifestyle mall and turn it into a P&R, easy access to I94 for buses. Except for Trader Joes and the cell phone stores, that mall is a ghost town.
