Just another example of the dumbocrats redistributing the wealth. A city, county, township, state or country have no way to raise funds other than taxes. I would love to have the rest of the city help pay for my curb and storm sewer assessments. They just add it to your tax bill and put an 8% interest rate on it.

Homeowners, fine...landlords, not so sure about that. I hate to say it but I think South Minneapolis property tax payers are going to go crazy again. Ryback has to get money somewhere and it isn't in the north half of town. Then you have the current Republican administration bent on not hurting their buddies in the top 2%, and slaughtering the middle class families of Minneapolis's southern neighborhoods with what I think will be insane hikes over the next three years. Remember last fall when people filled city hall and guys were dumping bags of money on the table at the council meetings? Get ready for more. My property taxes went from $975 in 1998 to $4700 in 2010. I figure by 2020 I'll be paying $10,000 a year. Crazy. Insane. Unacceptable.

The city wants to make it possible to tax the citizens for more 50,000.00 water fountains and bonding trips for city employees at some fancy resort.

If after insurance and federal disaster aid the city were to still feel the need to impose assessments I would take that as a sign of gross fiduciary irresponsibility at city hall. Every politician should be screaming bloody murder at the very mention of assessments. Stand up for your constituents and make the insurers pay up!

@Ranick Maybe all these years you have not paid your fair share?????????? If you live in the city that wants 50,000 dollar fountains, you should pay for those necessities, not me. You want state funds, but have demonstrated an inability to handle the funds you receive. Pay your taxes, or move out. Get rid of the dumbocrats you have put in office. You are the one that wants the city life, pay for it don't ask me to.

Lame....as i just got assessed for my sidewalks a few weeks ago...apparently its a 10 year cycle where they eventually get all the ones in the city. Since homeowners 'own' their sidewalks, why wouldn't their insurance cover the loss?

Minneapolis has a budget exactly the same as the year 2000...how is that not responsible? The problem is that republicans during the same time keep stealing more and more of the city's sales tax revenue. In addition gas prices have risen as well as other expenses, but Minneapolis have done a good job keeping the budget in line....again the problem is the republicans that STEAL money that was supposed to go to the city.
