No two point guards -- much like snowflakes -- are exactly alike.

So -- in the past 5 drafts, there have been a total of 50 players taken in the top ten (10 each year for 5 years). 11 of those players have been point guards, which is about 1/5 of the total players taken in the top ten, which seems about what you'd expect since there are 5 positions on a basketball team. All 11 of these point guards are (still) in the league. About half of them appear to be solid-or-better at the position. One is a bona fide super-star already. At least two others are close and/or would appear to have that star potential. Bottom line -- when teams take a point guard who is perceived to be good enough to be chosen in the top 10 of the draft, there's about a 50-50 chance that the guy will help (or at least not hurt) the team, about a 10% chance of coming up with someone who will be a super-star and have huge immediate impact that is recognized by everyone (MVP), and about 1-in-3 chance that the player will be very, very good and (or?) be a big help to their team. Given all that, and given that the Wolves have drafted a bunch of point guards in the top ten in the past several drafts, we're about due for one of those picks to work out! Let's hope it's Rubio. If this works -- and it's good to know that Kevin Love sees Rubio as an asset (more pick-and-rolls!) -- I see good times ahead for my favorite team.
