Kudos to Turtle Bread Co. I stumbled on them purely by accident about 7-8 years ago while running some errands. I am so glad I did. IMO, they make the best roast beef sandwich I've had to date in the TC's. Quality ingredients. Keep up the good work, folks.

Obento-Ya has been doing top notch robata and ramen for like, more than 3 years in Minneapolis. It's constantly frustrating to see the Strib food people not mentioning what I think is a great local place that was totally ahead of this "new" curve.

Very good article, Richard. Over the past couple of years, the twin cities is becoming the place to be for food.

This comment "Rusty Taco. If it's not a chain in the making, it should be" illustrates EVERYTHING that's wrong with Minneapolis attitudes toward restaurants. News flash - chains SUCK! Things have gotten better in the past 12 years, but Minneapolis has a loooong way to go before it can claim to be an interesting place for food. We have some good restaurants, we have chains, we have the occasional neighborhood jem, but overall, it ain't nirvana. And expensive. Why is a meal in Iowa or Wisonsin usually 30% less than a comparable meal in Minne? Hmm???

I guess it is a good thing Sopranos is selling a lot of wine. If someone drank enough of it, they might not realize the food is awful.

I love articles like Taste 50 and always look forward to trying new things or revisiting those that I'd forgotten about. I'll definitely look for the Smack Shack's lobster rolls. But I also will admit that I was perplexed by a couple of choices. The article touts that "It's time, once again, to shine the spotlight on fifty nifty people, places and products and ideas that reinforce why MINNRSOTA is the place for those who love to eat. How did Des Moines get into this article? Would have preferred to see more suggestions for those Minnesota road trips since there are lots of them (see this past Sunday's Travel section for a few). One of our favorite discoveries last year was QUARTER/quarter in Harmony, Minnesota. It's so refreshing to find a restaurant/wine bar in a small town like Harmony in the Root River Valley area, especially one that doesn't follow the tried-and-true formula of most small town restaurants. And just one more comment -- listing things that have not yet opened such as CB2 that doesn't open up until November 2011 seems like you were having trouble finding 50 places/people/or products to list. That said, I can't wait to try Wise Acre Eatery!
