So much for neighbors helping neighbors. :( I just can't wrap my head around people being raised this way.

20 minutes after the storm hits, people are looting the liquor store on Broadway. If you don't want to be stereotyped, don't act a fool.

I'm appalled. The Star Tribune is reporting on something that isn't a problem. If you admit that it's not an issue, why report it other than it keeps the image of North Minneapolis the way you want it? Please do some research. Report the number of volunteers that have been working in the neighborhood. Report a list of organizations that have provided free lunches and dinners. Report the good work that the City of Minneapolis and Minneapolis Parks have done in clearing streets. Report about the connections that school social workers and teachers have made in trying to track down all their students and making sure their needs are being taken off. It's not just negative. The community has always had great things happening. They are shining right now.

bkteach - It IS a problem. People living there reported that as soon as the storm passed, renters were out and about looking to "upgrade" their possessions. That was just the start.....Do you live at the epicenter of this? If so, take a real look around. If not, then SU.

It is appalling that even one person would decide to loot after such a tragedy. It isn't just in North Minneapolis - it is everywhere that there are catastrophes. It is true that some people simply are not brought up properly. It deserves to be noted. Perhaps one or two of them will read it and take a good look at themselves. We all know that most of the people in North Minneapolis are working together to come out of this and we applaud you.

"20 minutes after the storm hits, people are looting the liquor store on Broadway. If you don't want to be stereotyped, don't act a fool." yo dude are you kidding me? i hope you realize first how hilariously racist this is and second how ironic the statement "if you don't want to be stereotyped" is. I seriously cannot comprehend that type of thinking. Also, realize that people who make the choice to steal things etc. exist everywhere in all populations and so it will continue to happen in the wake of storms. You act as if all of North Minneapolis is rioting. Anyway, please try to be more thoughtful about the things you say because your statement smacks of racism and shows that you probably don't have a ton of experience with people different from you, because I don't know how else someone could make such a seething remark saturated with dumb implied racism and ignorant hatred.

bkteach: It is what it is, if people choose to burglarize their neighbors in a time of a crisis, it should be publicized so those "neighbors" can watch out for their property. It's not just the north side, it's everywhere. Criminals don't CARE who they victimize, as long as it nets something for them so they don't have to work for it. That's how they conduct business. It's WRONG and it's disgusting behavior. I'm willing to bet we'd see a lot more of it if the citizens were not alerted to it.

This is a good argument for enhanced protection for law abiding gun owning homeowners. The type of people that kick people when they are down like this deserve to get shot.
