Given the thick and rich clay soil I have in my yard, I dug out a rectangular hole and used the excavated soil to make a berm around the hole for a raised bed garden. The hole is now filled with water and I think I will probably plant some duck weed and cattails instead of filling it with proper garden soil. Yes, I will be putting the misquito control brickettes in there too!

I was concerned because I hadn't planted a single seed until last Thursday. Figured my lettuce and peas were doomed. Lo and behold, after all this rain and consistent cool weather, the seeds are already throwing shoots above the soil after only 5 days. The peas are an inch tall. What a surprise.

Frost warnings in Ely tonight, maybe I'll plant this weekend. Up here we can have frost until the middle of June.
