The team received permission from Columbus to interview the veteran coach. Michel Therrien and Craig MacTavish already have talked to GM Chuck Fletcher.

Kirk Muller would be a great pick, but so would Hitchcock or Therrian...i would also like to see Ted Nolan considered..he seems to have be blackballed by the NHL but was considered a players coach while with Buffalo and the Islanders..now director of hockey operations for Rochester of the AHL

I like Therrian, but I doubt Fletcher will pick him as the coach. If Fletcher does he is basically saying I screwed up when LeMaire was let go and a new offensive minded coach in Richards was hired. I don't think he wants to go back to the LeMaire system even though it was a proven one.

Mister Know it all says: Here is the thing, the Wild need to win hockey games and play the kind of hockey fans in Minnesota appreciate, that has not happened much in the last couple of years. I talk about personality of a franchise and when Lemaire and DR ran things it was Canadians hockey I thought. Lets face it, the Canadians play a style of hockey I like, usually great skating teams with strategic plans to overachieve. Look at the past 2 seasons for petes sake, they overachieved both years..... The Canadians play honest hockey, no crap like the Knuckleheads agitating and such. Derek Boogaards presence on the Wild team was to help the team stay honest against teams that play dishonest like the Oilers and Knuckleheads...... Fletcher needs to know in advance what team the Wild are going to be or wants then to be before you hire a coach...... So I say Hitchcock fits and the name Guy Carbaneau

Gankman, winning is the objective and what fans think they want is not always accurate. Everybody said they were tired of the defense first system that the Wild were playing and they wanted more scoring, Leo listened to that survey and that was a mistake. It was more than Defense first it was playing together in a team system and everybody buying into the team concept. Respecting the work ethic fans demanded was a critical piece as well...... Guy Carbaneu sounds like a strong candidate to get back to playing Canadians hockey, Kirk Muller another, but Carbaneau has experience. Craig Mactavish does not seem to match the personality of what I think the Wild were..... Ken Hitchcock has experience and certainly coaches a style were familiar with and need with this group of players...... I just question whether Carbaneau might get this team to overachieve more than Hitchcock

Good luck and here's hoping the right decision is made. It will be a tough decision, but as mentioned above, at the same time they really do need to establish what this team will be player-wise. After watching lots of playoff hockey, they are about 12-13 players away from having the depth of most of those teams. Some of it may be coachable into some of the players they have so at the same time they are scouring for players they also need to make the right choice for the coach. They do need to find a way to keep Rick Wilson also - he is really more of an Assistant Head Coach.

@gankman- you do realize Lemaire left while Risebrough was GM & not Fletcher right?

Hitch feels like a journeyman re-tread. His stock would be higher if he'd won the Worlds....with the list of candidates I've come to like Yeo more.(not likely after TRs flameout). MacT seems like a safe choice. And Muller is safe (if only b/c he comes with the Red Wings glow....not sure why anyone would want Therrian (resetting the org back to Lemaire hockey). Guy C. Is interesting too. Although he's French Canadian which makes him obnoxious and boring.

Hitchcock loves Burns and Clutterbuck, so he'd probably be interested in the job. However, I've also heard analysts on the NHL network say that Hitchcock wears out his welcome with players in fairly short order. I'd probably go first for Therrien, as defense has to be the first priority. If you play solid defense, it sets up opportunities for your offense. The Wild simply doesn't have the skaters or scorers to win 5-4 games, and won't for years, if ever. They are much closer to being a team that can win 3-2 or 2-1 games, as they have a solid defensive core. They just need to get a scorer or two, or create one with what they have, Latendresse, for example. So, that makes me lean toward Therrien.
