tears streaming as i read this and see the pics. thanks to the two wonderful fans for putting this together. what an amazing (impromtu) tribute for the parents/family to be able to attend. i'm hoping they can take strength from this.....from knowing how well loved and respected their son and brother was. thanks russo, for allowing those of us unable to attend a little glimpse into the memorial this evening.

Thank you for those who put this on and those who attended. It probably means more to his family than you could ever know. Still doesn't seem real.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Boogaard family and all those who knew and love him. I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Derek about a year ago while out with some friends. He was nothing but kind and funny and a pleasure to be around, graciously shaking hands and exchanging words with those who approached him. My heart broke when I heard the news on Friday night. Derek will be missed, not only because he was a force to be reckoned with on the ice, but also because he was a beautiful human being.

It seems like it's been said hundreds of times and better than I can say it but I am so tremendously sad. It surprises me how sad I am. I never met Boogie. I was just one of the fans in the stands - or in front of the tv - cheering him on, wishing I had a stick to tap on the sideboards. I always admired his restraint - this huge guy that usually had to be provoked to drop the gloves. There was something noble about that. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and teammates. I cannot fathom your loss. God bless.
