So there you have it. Nothing serious. Play ball for crying out loud. I am relieved that he is not seriously ill, and now this whole thing has become officially pathetic. I don't think I can stomach to hear Mr. Mauer say another word.

How does minor knee surgery in December cause someone to be not ready to play in April? unable to play in May? no timetable for when he might even try? weakness in BOTH legs? shoulder problems?!! He's 28 years old, for pete's sake. What's going on?

Yeah we know he lost like 10-15 pounds, 15-20 pounds, 20-30, 40-50 pounds, but... shoulder? It was his shoulder this whole time?

As my dad reminds me every time the Twins come up in conversation: Somehow he has managed to work 40-55 hours a week for 32 years hunched over or kneeling as a tile setter, has had multiple back surgeries and raised four kids on his own. Yet, he somehow gets out of bed every morning at 5 AM and makes it through his day. No days off for 'soreness' or even legitimate ailments. He makes a decent living, but obviously not $23 million a year. Joe Mauer plays baseball during the summer, then has all winter to keep his legs in shape. Somehow, he can't play a game for 3 hours a day with all the therapy in the world available. I think this is where Mauer loses people in this area, people who pride themselves on surviving brutal winters and toughing it out to enjoy a beer at the end of the day.

Unreal. So now it's factual that there's nothing wrong with him. This has officially turned totally bizarre. The team has never needed him more, there is nothing wrong with him, and there is no timetable for his return?? Wow, way to grind it out Joe. Pathetic.

Let him be. I am sure he's just being a wuss, right? No matter how much one is paid and no matter how fit one is, one's body can and does break down. Losing a bunch of weight all at once, like he did, impacts a body in a huge way. I seem to remember that people thought Jim Kleinsasser was a big pansy and no one knew what was wrong with him and he actually had plantar fasciitis. None of us knows what it takes to be a professional athlete and none of us knows the level of physical perfection one has to have in order to compete. Lay off of Mauer.

Don't worry Joe, take your time. Your teammates can handle things no problem while you're away. Perhaps a cruise or backpacking stint through Europe will strengthen your legs.

How on earth can a team go from division champ to an utter bottom dweller? The Mauer Mystery, the Cuddyer Copout, the Delmon Dive, the Nishioka Ninjary, etc...but the real problem is Gardyball. He and his coaching staff -- geniuses like Scotty Ulger -- have taken a nice new Ferrari and run it into the ground. They basically mismanaged this team into the cellar. Pohlads, if you are not making replacement plans, you deserve the empty new stadium you will get.

I'm sorry to say, I can't stand to look at Mauer anymore. And there he is, with dandruff free hair, working out at 24 hour fitness, eating ice cream with his mom while he plays video games and exploring the great outdoors. The only thing you don't see him doing is playing baseball!

Mauer would make a better manager than Gardenhire.
