Sid Hartman: Maybe next year for Vikings stadum

  • Article by: SID HARTMAN , Star Tribune

Momentum for a Vikings stadium seems like it could be better in 2012 than in '11, despite the governor's optimism.

Sid's such a helpless homer for his downtown Close Personal Friends, he can't bring himself to look at this objectively. 1. The Arden Hills site has already been cleaned up to industrial standards. That's good enough for a stadium. Good enough for parking lots. 2. The road infrastructure costs for the Arden Hills site are offset by the fact that these roads are already due for rehabilitation and improvement. Most of the 'cost' gets covered bing this project forward on the schedule, and put off another project until later. Fixed that for ya, Sid. 3. There's that objectivity debbil when a columnist's employer stands to benefit if they can sell some land that just happens to be the other sire.

Sid, why don't you write a column on why the Wilf family and the Vikings don't issue their own bond for a stadium??? Is it because pro sports are a sham business that no bank will loan money for a project like that???

brokenglassMay. 7, 11 9:30 PM

meant to type, ' bringing this project forward..'' , and,'...just happens to be the other site'.

Whoever issues a bond for this project is on the hook for the money for the bond if they revenue does not come in! Just look at St. Paul. The St. Paul Port Authority issued a bond in the late 1970s for a bond that was used for public relation make-work projects for St. Paul, like "Energy Park Drive" (which bull dozed the old Midway stadium - expandable to 55,000!). They are in court now trying to weasel out of paying off the rest of the bond by just $.60 cents on the dollar!!!!!!!!!

...and the people who had a life said, "No!"

Well that's that, the Vikings are getting a new stadium. People who follow this newspaper know that whatever Sid says, the exact opposite happens.

Does anybody else get the feeling Sid Hartman has "personal" interest in having the Vikings on the Farmers market site????? Nice try Sid, but you are not fooling anyone.........

edeneliseMay. 7, 1110:42 PM

yes lets get rid of the farmers market for a stadium, thats just brilliant. thats what minneapolis needs, another new stadium..not a farmers market. not like people need to eat fresh, healthy food or anything. not like its a huge benefit for MN farmers to sell direct to MN shoppers. nah, crazy talk... and gee sid, would you favor the Farmers Market b/c your employer stands to make enormous profits if it is in fact built there?? hmmm...

edeneliseMay. 7, 1110:44 PM

and Sid, your close-personal friend Tubby needs to go. He has shown absolutely no signs he has figured the Big10 out in terms of the players he needs, the style he needs to play in order to be competitive. How many players have left the team already? If a coach can't figure out a competitive line-up when one player goes down that coach is NOT worth his salary, especially a supposedly premiere coach.

Outdoor, on campus football has done nothing to improve the Gopher football team or attendance to their games. The Viking fans seemed to have loved the game the team played at TCF stadium. Why not have the Vikings play at TCF Stadium and save alot of money, not only now, but in the future when they start wanting upgrades and stadium repairs. Sunday is Mother's Day, our Mothers taught us to share and prosper from it, can't the Vikings and Gophers share? Happy Mother's Day to all the ladies out there !!
