I am 61 and this is really bad news. We spend way too much on the elderly and not enough on the young. We buy viagra for bad lovers and new knees for bad tennis players and the cost of college is out of sight and the kids have no health insurance. The really bad priorities will continue!

Yea! Good to know, the group most responsible for being asleep at the wheel will wield more influence the next 40-50yrs. I guess the Culture Wars will still be raging, and hypocrites will continue to force/tell me how to conduct myself in the bedroom and at the altar. Its hard to deal with folks sooo out of touch and materialistic.

Without the young Obama never would have been elected.

This is great news for the pull-the-ladder-up-behind-them generations. Now they can deny us Medicare and Social Security after we've contributed with every paycheck our whole lives. They can leave us an economy where no college leads to poverty and education leads to crushing student loan debt. Young folks will be at the mercy of a rigged economy dominated by ruthless multinationals. We'll be left with trillions of debt for wars started by lies and bluster. We are left with a generation torn by the carnage of these senseless wars; the pain, guilt, and missing limbs of our generation's finest will haunt us for decades. Our children will ask why we let a corrupt Wall Street loot our country's wealth. How could we let our infrastructure decay as the world passes us by? So I wonder- when will a new generation stand up and vote for justice? And will we even hear those young voices over the gray-haired tea party shouting ME, ME, Mine?

Please tell me that whatever wire this story was ripped from is aware that Puerto Rico is in fact part of the United States and that residents there are US Citizens? This is especially galling when you lump it in with immigration from Hispanic countries, since in this xenophobic country, you might as well be tarring them with the "illegal" brush.

Not good for Obama. Dems think the the older folks will vote to keep beneies but they are more practical and understand the need to have a balanced house.

My folks and family who are older are just mad as heck about what we have become and most used to be liberals and not have become conservatives.

Older and wiser and an understanding of what are wants and what are needs.

"ME, ME, Mine!" The Boomers were sold on the notion that if they worked all of their lives & put money in the govt kitty, the govt would care for them when they retire. Now, the debt is due & the all the younmgsters can do is throw a tantrum because they, like their Boomer parents, have to actually work for the things they want to govt to provide them. Buck up, kids. It's your turn to shoulder the cost of all those silly social obligations you championed in college. And you, too, can wait 40 years to cash in on them.

As one of the old fogies and a baby boomer, I think about my children and grandchildren's future every time I vote. Too many voters think it is all about me or the bottom line, not what is good for future generations. Conservatives want the good old days, liberals want something for everyone, conservatives want to make their moral code the law of the land, liberals want to give everyone a break whether they deserve it or not. Both are short sighted and neither is a viable alternative that looks to the next generations. I want my children and grandchildren to have clean air, clean water, a place to live, a government that stays out of their private lives, educational opportunity and a decent job that pays a decent wage, provided they are willing to work for it and earn it on their merit. I expect them to support the less fortunate and try to help them. I expect them to pay their taxes without complaint but also be active in civics and government to make sure their taxes are being spent appropriately, not merely sit on the sidelines and complain. Lastly, I want them to volunteer their time to the community just like they watched us donate hours every week when they were growing up.

Oh to be young again and think that you have all of the answers. Do the young people really think that they are the first generation to think that they can/will do it better? The people that you hold in contempt also thought that they had all of the answers and I believe made the world a better place. From what I have seen were far less selfish and much more willing to help others.
