  • Article by: PATRICK REUSSE , Star Tribune

The Twins thought they could rebuild their bullpen and find capable fill-ins from their minor leaguers, and they aren't there.

So what does this say about Bill Smith and Gardy!! Bill Smith has killed this organization by bad trades after bad trades. Although I am ultimately ok with Gardy as a manager I feel he is vastly overrated and has to much of a buddy system with his players. We are in trouble not just for this year but probably for a couple of years until we can develop some talent...hopefully Smith will be gone after this year.

Way to tell it like it is Pat, the catchers are 1 for the last 39, Tosoni, Tolbert, Casilla are not much better. Tell me why Morales was let go for nothing right after Ramos was traded for Capps, leaving only Butera left if Mauer didn't catch. Neshek and Balfour and any pitcher who takes longer than the brain trust thinks they should to recover from arm surgery, is let go. Giving up Garza's power arm and Barlett's steady play at shortstop was the beginning of the end, losing Gomez made the Santana trade worthless and now half the lineup couldn't hit a ball off the tee out of the infield. Mauer has to catch and hit .350 to make any lineup work and Cuddy has to quit hitting into double plays as it wipes out Morneau or Thome everytime.

Huh, so what you're saying is that the Twins are horribly managed? I think just about everyone in "Twins Territory", with the exception of a few kool-aid swillin' homers, has figured this out, not that your breakdown/dissection of this trainwreck isn't informative. Glad they continue to jack up prices for everything from tickets to sausages. Also glad they pulled the Twins off network TV. They are TOTALLY worth my money right now. Fire the boys' club running this circus and start rebuilding.

Star Trib has the most annoying pop ads, besides that ... I really believe we should've used the Joe Mauer money to bring Terry Ryan and Tom Kelly back.

You hit the nail on the head. Thanks for speaking up. Not that it does any good for the Twins season, but at least you didn't kiss anybody's arse.

Take it to the logical conclusion: why a bad plan and no backup plan? Because of Mauer's absurd salary. For better or worse the Pohlads have a salary number in their head and Mauer eats up too much of it. Even with all the salary dumps in the offseason the Twins have the ninth highest payroll and only about six proven big leaguers. the reality of paying Mauer made the Pohlad's wet the bed and they didnt want to go higher. So this is what we end up with. Get used to it, its gonna last a decade.

Totally right on with this article! And where does the "soreness" and "flopping around" come from? The manager himself allows it! You kick some tail and put some fire under players and let them know certain things are not allowed and you will have a different club!
