The pick was still a major reach. There are, however, two way to grade a draft. The first is the perceived value of the picks made. The Vikes probably deserve an F on that grade. The second is determined a few years down the road and renders the first grade absolutely meaningless. Prove the haters wrong, Ponder!

What is perceived value worth? Nothing. If they liked the guy, which they obviously did, they should draft him. The Vikes had a two chances to draft Aaron Rodgers, they skipped. They had a chance to draft Colt Mccoy, they skipped. Eventually, you gotta pull the trigger and get a young quarterback you can build around. This guy has all the qualities you want in a QB. Now, lets see if he can put it all together and be a winner that this team desperately needs. No more washed up veteran qbs, we got our franchise qb.

Ponder was recruited by Bobby Bowden at Florida State and played in a big time football program, so he knows what pressure is. I suspect he won't be under a lot of pressure in Minny for a little while.

"The pick was still a major reach. There are, however, two way to grade a draft. The first is the perceived value of the picks made. The Vikes probably deserve an F on that grade.... It was a bit of a reach, yet totally justifiable. Had they not taken a QB at 12, there's NO chance that any of the top QB's would be left for the vikes in Rd 2. Then they'd REALLY be in trouble. Of course time will tell on how he pans out. I for one am glad we're trying to put a stop to the 2 yr revolving door system for QB's we seem to have adopted over the years. Giving them an F is ludicrous... YOU sound like the hater with that nonsense.

Glad to see the vikings are not dumb enough to try and start that bum Joe Webb who can ONLY take off run because he is unable to read defenses or pass with any consistency. Webb's limited abilities when it comes to passing and reading defenses was evident in every game he played in last season and especially so during the viking's late season humiliating losses to the Lions and Bears. The fact that he did not throw a touchdown pass in any of the games he played in last season including the two games in which he was a starter is a good indication that he is far from being (if ever) a true legitimate NFL starter.

this guy actually may be worth the pick, his dad said something that impressed me, that football was Ponders life and that he will immerse himself into the program here, and be the face of the program. Ponder has no doubt the most dedication of all the prospects I have ever read about, he is working on his Masters! Imagine what he will do now that he can leave school behind completely during the season. Also got to love the coaches thoughts on his knowledge of the game plays. when he went to the white board he blew all the competition out of the water in form of retension meaning he gets the playbook( already) the first time he looks at it not the 40th like Brett Favre or 500th time like Daunte. I have to admit I love the play of Locker, he plays with his heart on his sleeve all day, and can't wait to see Titan football now but this kid has some serious football skill and knowledge to give us. Lets reevaluate this blog in 2014.

Remember when everyone debated whether Manning would ever be better than Ryan Leaf? The head is a bigger deal than the arm.
