What a neat story, even more so in these times. A man lives his life just going about his business, stepping on no one and pursuing a life long passion.. nice man. A life to reflect upon.

I confess myself disturbed and saddened by the last quote in the story, about him not getting married. That did not seem to diminish his life at all; instead, he devoted himself to a collection that he cared for until his dying day, spending his life doing something he loved. May any of us be as fortunate.

Sounds like a nice collection, but as a lifetime comic collector I csn tell you that those estimates are wildly inflated. Example: Daredevil #1, estimated at $25,000. While a key comic book, you would be lucky to sell it anywhere for more than $3,500 even if it were in near mint condition.

My uncle has a nice collection down in Houston; I'll have to ask how he's preserving them. And, of course, if I'm in his will. lol!

To: parn0015 you are clearly not a passionate collector then. If these comics graded high NM-MT or MT,these comics will sell high. One book alone sold for $50k and paid off his house. This is a great story and it is sad that he did not live to see then fruits of his love pay for his golden years.

Love the toys in the refrigerator. Now that's some original thinking!

What makes them valuable would be scarcity combined with demand. What caused the scarcity is other people, like his mother, who thought they were worthless and tossed them out, unlike his mother, and also the fact that they require careful preservation. If everyone kept their comic books since 1963 they would not be valuable.
