Whoa! Seemed like a decent review until that last sentence. Kind of undercut anything positive that came before. Well, we're seeing it this week, so we can form our own opinions.

I agree with the pacing of the Opera, however I felt that Sarah Jakubiak's voice was a strong Soprano, and was surprised to hear after reading your review. The opera was definitely a nice surprise considering your review had me weary. This is the last time I read your reviews prior to seeing any future operas. The HD cameras that were filming were a distraction, but nonetheless, a great evening out.

Saw it Thursday night and I loved it! The emotional orchestral music really captured the destructive passion of Heathcliff and Cathy, and the staging was inspired, emphasizing the characters' connection to the stark, beautiful landscape. Yes, maybe the pace could have moved quicker in parts, and in general, I prefer distinct, lovely arias, but overall, I was more captivated by this performance than anything else I've seen in the last few seasons.
