I'm glad they are also asking the females encountered, if they are veterans. Not too long ago, a female friend, an Army vet, was living out of her car. I see many more female patients at the VA medical center than there usta be, too. Don't get all sanctimonious and think it can't happen to YOU. With this dismal economy, any one of you readers could suddenly be the one's living out on the streets. At least the homeless folks that have actually done something to serve their country instead of just taking from it, are getting some sort of break cut them ... THANK YOU Mpls PD!

Wow, so you just ask them if they ever served their country and you give them a backpack. So if they say "no", they are out of luck!! That's just wonderful....no wonder there are so many problems in the world. Maybe you want to help "ALL" the homeless and not single ones out. I couldn't even imagine doing that to someone! Wow....

I am a disabled vet from 82 to 88 who is trying to make a go for it with lawn work. I think I will save the article anyway. Thanks I did think that there was some help out there for vets but really don't have any information about it.

For me, this is a two part question; before or after 1973. Before equals conscription and paid as a slave. After equals all-volunteer force and people paid a liveable wage. For those we forced to go do our dirty work and refused to pay, we owe them everything. For those who chose that as a way to make a living, I don't feel quite as responsible for.

Regardless of what year(s) they served, they still served OUR country and fought/are fighting for OUR freedom. It's not the soldiers that decided we should go to war, they're just the one's out there protecting us and what we've grown accustomed to.

I am so happy to read this good news! I am confident that it will make a positive difference, one veteran at a time. Thanks to all who are involved.

mngirl1981 - if you enlisted today, you should know darn well what you're getting yourself into and willing to take those risks for the pay you're receiving. If you are hurt, the VA will take care of you, if you are not, you're not my problem, it was your choice to do that - if it turned out to be not as glorious as the ads, that's your ignorance. "Defending our country" is not something done in some 3rd world country half a planet away and if you think killing people there who just want us out of their country is, then you're not only fiscally irresponsible, but also ignorant of how this country is really run. Listen to Eisenhower's farewell address and get a clue.

I'm glad veterans are getting the assistance they deserve, but that picture is just ridiculous. I can't personally attest to how much staging went into it, but it looks hilariously stiff and awkward.
