You must be joking. The timing belt should be replaced within the next two years anyway. Why not do it when access is so easy?
identified the possibility of "a suspect cooler return filter" allowing fluid to drain back from the torque converter overnight. //////////////////////////////////// If the torque converter has drained back and it takes 3-5 minutes to fill, you have major problems with the transmission. It sounds more like incorrect or improper fluid installed in the transmission. This is usually the result of the transmission being serviced by quick service generic oil change operations and can damage your transmission. Always use the SAE specified fluid for your transmission which will be identified in the owners manual, not the barrel in the corner of the shop that is used for everything. This is the most common product used in the flushing machines used to service the transmissions. As for the SEAFOAM (mouse milk) they may pay Paul and he has to plug their product, but there is never, never, never any reason to add anything to the fluid if the proper service has been preformed at proper intervals, using the proper fluids.
I thought Paul had stopped pushing SeaFoam in his Strib columns, but I guess I was wrong. I don't remember the second letter, the one about the transmission, the first time I read this column. Perhaps it was added later. Also, enonorman, I see that Paul apparently didn't like either of our comments.
