I have seen this scenario countless times over the 20 yrs I worked at Mpls Children's, I have seen one case of a mom abusing the child and a few "who dunnit" between family members, but the marjority of these cases are perpetrated by mom's "boyfriend". I have seen a case where the abuse by the boyfriend started when the premature baby was discharged several weeks after birth at a few months old. that was in retrospect as the bf and mom said the baby monitor fell and hit the boy in the head, a week or so later he was permanently brain damaged by the bf who had become the fiance and the boy's name had been changed to bf's. The mom was basically impossible to deal with as she dealt with her own guilt for ignoring the signs. Way too common. These women need to focus on their child/Children and not on their own social or lovelife.

Good for you, Judge Rosas! "I was unhappy as a child" is NOT a defense for taking away the mind of a baby. Shoulda sentensed him more heavily.
