"The constant crises roiling the world suggest that if Couric leaves, her replacement should be an anchor who has come from the reporting ranks." - - Amen

I nominate Sheppard Smith from Fox News to take Katie's place. He is about as liberal as he can get and besides, he is a pretty good reader.

I'm worried about Katie leaving CBS...who will I turn to find out who's wearing what at the Academy Awards? Gotta love that perky delivery of "hard news".

Lester Holt is such an underrated anchor. Great delivery and can convey command and genuine warmth at the same time. It's hard for me though to critique because I rarely watch any nightly news anymore, as I get most my headlines from the web. News is going the same way as music. People don't buy nearly as many albums anymore and instead pick and choose the individual songs they want. Likewise I'm less likely to sit through a 30 minute newscast when I can select the individual stories I want to know more about. Just a sign of the times.

For the last several decades at least, news has been entertainment. It's a huge loss for America, and you see the blurring of news and entertainment everywhere. If I want entertainment, I'll watch the Road Runner.
