The Gophers new coaching staff knows it has a gem in the versatile Eric Lair, who can give defenses fits in many ways.

Nice kid! Too bad he is never going to experience winning a bowl game while in college.

The fact that NI's DC said it could have been worse tells you how well our OC was at reading defenses. From a football perspective, Kill and his staff are a quantum leap forward. He'll need to amp up his recruiting to compete in the BT Legends, though. goldteamtool - I think you're wrong about winning a bowl game.

Give Kill, Limegrover and Claeys a chance to coach and influence the current players (Brewster's) with their systems. With athletic Marquis Gray at QB and decent line play, we could be pleasantly surpised this fall. I'm going to predict 7 wins and 5 losses for the Gilded Rodents. If they get a couple of lucky bounces, they could be 8 - 4 in Jerry Kill's first year. Kill has a chance to earn all of his bonus money (built into contract already) and will pony up to have his teeth fixed after the season. Glen Mason's wife Kate, (dentist) will do the work! Can you imagine Jerry Kill with Glen Mason's pearly white smile?

I really like coaches who see what they have and then devise their schemes to exploit their players' strengths --unlike coaches who have a system or a canned set of schemes, coaches who force round pegs into square holes and blame the players "for not executing". I might get to like this Kill staff.

"and will pony up to have his teeth fixed after the season." I have a hunch that Kill is a "what you see is what you get" kind of a guy.... And fwiw - if you mean change his teeth set from nordic set focusing on the front incisors to the flat slavic set focusing on the group of characterless piano keys that dentists promote, don't fall for it, Coach Kill. Study says one has instinctive trust and the other has used car salesman on it.

Wait - adjusting your schemes and plans to most effectively leverage your current players' set of skills? What is this, coaching?

Hey I recently moved here so don't know much about the Gophers. I went to undergrad at Texas. However, reading comments on Gopher articles the past few days, I assumed they were good. They are not. In fact, you guys win like 2 conference games a year and lose to 1-AA teams. And to be honest, I've never even heard of your new head coach so had to look him up. Some JV coach from a podunk school in Illinois. If you're going to speak about your team, please be at least realistic and stop talking about bowls and how great you are. A quick Google search on your record the past 50 years will prove otherwise and then you'll just sound stupid.

Blindsheep, why in the world would you want to move here? We are optimistic people who have had a little sucess, maybe not in Big Time Football. But with Jerry Kill we have someone like us. I am convinced he and his guys can coach, my only only concern is can he recruit Big Ten calibre players? Time will tell.

"Hey I recently moved here so don't know much about the Gophers." So it seems. Texas schools have never been known for teaching their graduates either understatement of acuity. Insecurity, it is said... Minnesota winters, on the other hand, have been known to humble even the biggest and most arrogant of egos... Did you know that 9 of ten who moved in from from the lower states leave after the first winter? And - we haven't had a real cold winter in 20 years and cars now have seat heaters and start most of the time, fer cripes sake.
