The players found out first-hand on the first day of practice under Jerry Kill that the new Gophers football coach will be demanding and a stickler for doing things right.

Bout time someone lit a fire under our players. I like what I see and what I hear so far. Keep up the good work boys (and coaches), we are all rooting for ya!

I really like to think the new Gopher team will demonstrate much more discipline than previous teams. I seem to recollect how Northwestern would win games, simply by not making errors. Football is a team game and when well executed a good team can beat a better team if it makes few mistakes.

Maybe Joel Maturi FINALLY hired a real football coach!

You people have absolutely no idea of what you're talking about .... if Kill wins 30% of their games it will be a lot. Joel Maturi also has no idea of what it takes ...mark my word. Until they get rid of Joel, and hire a top D-1 coach to not only coach, but recruit will things change...!!!!

Maybe the new coach & staff can go through some of the departments at U of M and run them through some drills too ... starting with his boss! Sounds as if he's changing the culture with practice 1! This is truly different from the past 'pied piper' coaches at U of M. No talk of Big Ten Championships or Rose Bowls. Just roll up the sleeves and go. A good 5-6 win season with the remainder games competitive would make this long time fan happy!

Remember, we played against Kill and his team, and I said at the time, They are doing this (whipping the Gophers that is)to us with a Mid-America team, and, with intensity and no mistakes.

Here we go again. Rah Rah! Everything is perfect in Gopher Nation. On to the Rose Bowl! Unfortunately, I've been a Gopher fan long enough to know this time is no different than other coaching changes. We bring in a new coach, he gives us his schtick (i.e. Rose Bowl, more discipline, etc.), and we all fall in love...until the first game when we get whipped by some small community college in Wyoming. Well I'm one of the 1% club. For those who don't know, that's the group of MN fans that's not naive enough to fall for this crap for the 50th time. The rest of you are blind sheep willing to swallow whatever Maturi and his dime-store coaches feed you. Wake up.

Yah, I fear shouting orders and maintaining high expectations and attention to detail will hurt the player's feelings.

I agree with minne56.....roll up the sleeves and go! This is Big Ten Football. I am excited for the season to start. Good Luck to Coach Kill, his staff and the entire team.

As a huge NDSU Bison fan, I have never really cared for the U of M Football program. For some reason it seems as though the program being part of the Big Ten would, without trying and lack luster effort, be successful. Many years have shown this is not the case. Coach Kill will turn the Gopher's around, maybe not this year, but give him a little time. I guarantee, you will notice a difference in the performance of the players this year with him at the helm. I have to say, I feel a little proud to have Coach Kill as the U's Coach- he is a no nonsense coach and will get the job done. I may be rooting for the Gophers this year, until they play the Bison Sept. 24th. Good luck to the Gopher's football program and Coach Kill.
