So what you're saying is my cheapness in buying stuff to 'improve' my lawn and kill dandelions and my leaving brush piles for yet another day has actually made me a 'good steward' - - THANKS FOR THE INFO ! ! :)

additional info: note re: older, not so hybridized annuals being less productive as food sources also applies to other flowering plants such as shrubs, trees and perennials -- the fancy blooms and new colors aren't much use to the bees. Another Rule of Thumb -- if it doesn't smell nice & sweet to you it probably won't to the bees either.

I agree that we should do everything we can to keep the bees alive and happy! If your city allows it, consider putting a hive in your back yard. Surprisingly easy to keep, faschinating to watch, and you might get a sweet reward!
