At Laughter Yoga classes across the Twin Cities, joy takes over when what starts as forced laughter turns real.

My first thought was "Look at all the comedians who have lived into old age." But then one remembers Lenny Bruce, Greg Giraldo, Chris Farley, and many others for whom laughter alone was not the silver bullet. Comedians like Jack Benny, George Burns and Bob Hope were perfectionists when plying their craft, but at some point learned to let go and accept the impossibility of having everything exactly their own way, and thus see the humor of the human condition, even making it part of their acts. We all would do well to consider this ironic view. On the other hand, the story implies that someone had relief from sleep apnea through laughter, so maybe I'll give it a try.

You need to pay money to go into a room with a bunch of other suckers and laugh at nothing? This is embarrassing!

LAUGABLE IS RIGHT - The notion that such a class has any impact on the crippling symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia is really what's laughable. Widespread joint pain, dibilitating muscle pain and stiffness, severe cognitive impairment (aka fibro fog), numbness in the extremities, vision problems, tinnitus, thyroid hormone resistance, extreme fatigue not relieved by any amount of rest, dry mouth, temperature sensitivities, muscle twitching, kidney pain, spinal stenosis. Certainly anyone living with the condition knows that the symptoms associated with fibromyalgia are beyond dibilitating and that they do not respond to a good joke anymore than the symptoms of MS. Fibromyalgia patients would be better served by a story that focuses on why such symptoms seem to respond to minimizing their exposure to certain toxins, including fluorinated prescription drugs - one of the suspected causes of Fibromyalgia. The new contract sensitivity test for Fibromyalgia has already been proven in a court of law, by Maryland's physician of the year, Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker, that fibromyalgia symptoms are directly linked to exposure to a neurotoxin. Such important developments certainly warrant more coverage than an article that suggests fibromyalgia patients just try to laugh their symptoms away. Good grief.
