Don't let the temporary spike in gas prices cloud your thinking. the Keystone pipeline project is now in full force thanks to current prices and political upheavals. What Mr. Verleger fails to point out is that the pipeline and new refineries will create thousands of new jobs-in the Dakotas, Nebraska and Missouri partially because of their low tax, pro business policies.

It will never happen. The costs of building the pipeline alone would be to high. Then you would have to go through all the permits for every state, then all of the court cases that would be brought forward, and then it is Wall street who will set the prices. Not to mention the building of storage for all this oil. That region already has to much oil. They are storing it in tankers off the gulf coast until it can be brought in for a profit.

If only the U.S. had it's own oil offshore and in Alaska that we could drill for. Oh, wait. We do. But we just let it sit there while the rest of the world sticks it to us.

I think we should let them build it. The Bush Admin. wanted to build a pipeline across Afghanistan and the Taliban said no, so they killed them. Hate to see that happen here.

News. News. Read all about it. Canada is not a free country and they have to abide by what we tell them to do. Does anybody have a problem with this article?

patrickjdMar. 13, 11 6:59 PM

So, we all agree then that this opinion piece doesn't have any merit. Canada is producing oil at record capacity and progressing economically. Folks in the midwest are sitting down here being blocked from importing Canada's oil while burning food for fuel. It makes no sense.

jrswanMar. 13, 11 8:36 PM

Yes, Yes, now the Canadians are after our money! I am darn mad that everyone is trying to pick our pockets. Hey - do you think these countries view us as energy addicted idiots?

mackroeMar. 13, 11 9:20 PM

The liberal agenda is to drive gas prices so we all have to take mass transit. Then the only one who will be able to afford to drive a car is Al Gore.

tjb7345Mar. 13, 11 9:45 PM

Let's get realistic. The only ones who are going to drive the prices up are the oil companies who continue to roll up $4B in profits a quarter and try to explain to us that a sandstorm in Qatar is the problem.

The alternative is pipeline going to the Canadian West Coast to export fuel to China. No USA permission needed for that.
