Ralph Sampson III has still not mastered college basketball. He would not make it in the D-league right now. Ralph III needs to stay. Coach Tubby needs to stay and recruit some studs for next year. I would love to think Al Nolan could just walk on the floor and make a difference. Coming back from that injury will be tough to step right in and pick up where he left off but it will be fun to watch. I don't think they will beat Penn State.

Yeah we 'only' lose Blake Hoffarber and Al Nolen next year. No biggie. Heck, even if Mbakwe leaves we'll be just fine, right? Sure, our young players 'got good experience'. But that statement applies to just about every young player in the country. Personally I wasn't very impressed.

I would like to see Hollins become a better shooter next year. A lot of airballs.

If Ralph Sampson thinks he has an NBA game then I am Mickey Mouse! He cannot be that dumb, I hope!

First of all, let me say that I'm happy to hear Tubby dispel the annual rumors that he's planning to leave. The team should be much better next year - and would be in disarray for several years if he were to leave. I have to wonder whether Jordan Taylor would have reached the same heights as a Gopher as he has at Wisconsin. If you look at his 3 years, he has made incredible strides each year - something nobody seems to do at Minnesota. Obviously, I wish the Gophers had this version of Jordan Taylor, but it's possible that without the influence of Trevon Hughes and Bo Ryan he wouldn't be the same dominant force.

"Coach Tubby needs to stay and recruit some studs for next year."==========herein lies part of the failure. he needs to recruit players that fit his system, whatever that is, and give up this charade of trying to find NBA talent with a complete disregard of character or the ability to succeed in the classroom. see royce white. i don't know if rodney williams has any character flaws but once again it appears they tried to recruit an athlete instead of a real basketball player. it really isn't hard to keep plucking solid players out of minnesota, in part because the barn is a lousy arena, the program is not a consistent winner, and the players that have been in tubby's system don't look much better as juniors or seniors as they did as freshmen. this is a time bomb, as their recruiting now doesn't exactly inspire the idea that the haskins scandal is really behind them. they aren't recruiting student athletes or emphasizing character, grades, and ability to play within a system - instead they are a poor man's ohio state, trying to rent a player for a couple of years before they turn pro, and half of them don't last long enough to ever even see the floor.

Why would Smith go anywhere? He has the best job in the entire world. Where else can anyone kick back and chill amidst low expectations and make $2+ million per year for failing? His teams have finished 6th, 7th, 6th, and now 9th. His conference winning percentage is virtually the same as Monson had in his last 4 years. Perhaps Mrs. Smith is sick and tired of MN winters, but otherwise Tubby will never leave to go somewhere where there are actually expectations that he do better than average finishing in 7th place for $2 million per year.

Badgerfan is wrong. What are you talking about? Coach Smith deserves credit for not allowing Royce White to play last season while under investigation, Nolen after bad grades, and Coach deserves credit for benching the quitter Devoe Josephs this season for the those early games for violating team rules. Unlike Coaches Calipari and Pearl, Coach Smith doesn't recruit regardless of a player's character. Also, Mbakwe has blossomed under Coach Smith's leadership and I'm glad both will return next season. Finish strong Gophers and make a deep run in the Big 10 Tournament.

Keep up the good work Tubby. It was a disappointing year for sure but this program finally has some stability. I don't care what anyone says you lose your 2 best back court players and bad things will happen. Anyone says this guy cant coach or recruit needs to have their head checked. Recruiting is a gamble at times. Their is no one who could have predicted that Jordan Taylor would have been the guard he is.

I hope Sampson III makes himself eligible for the NBA draft, gets drafted, and signs.
