Wild coaches consider sticking with Theodore

It wouldn't be a surprise if Todd Richards decided to stick with the hot goalie -- which, right now, isn't Niklas Backstrom.

Mister Know it all says: hmmmm, this is a critical decision and could be a turning point in regards to the decision on the golatending. I am not with the team but I would have played Backs against the Rangers because Backs is the one goalie that can get you to the playoffs and he is the ONLY reason that the Wild are close to making the playoffs now

I actually think Richards can only go one way, you have to play Backs or your saying Theodore is the guy that can carry the team. I would be surprised if Richards plays Theodore because you are then saying Theodore starts against the Avalance as well because Backs will do the same thing he did against the Islanders if you play him against the Avs. He better know Theodore can do it

By playing one goalie or another on any particular night is not making any statement about which tender is going to carry the team. mkia's statement is a false dilemma because it overlooks the possibility that both tenders, in tandem, will carry the team. It's simply not true that Richards MUST play Backstrom or be making a STATEMENT that Theo is the only keeper to do the job. Backes had a couple bad nights for some reason. Last time he had a few bad games, he took some time off, Theo started for a while, and when Nik came back he had amazing numbers.

Cliff Fletcher, now I know why you are not on the GM payroll anymore. Backs is not a new member to the Wild as you have some historical data available. You have a real Dilemma if the coaching decisions slows his return to form (no time left). Its not like this team has been playing good in front of him lately. You make the decision to throw him in don't bother going back to him against the AVS as that is the Islanders. Goalies are very temperamental as you know Cliff as you are an old gm yourself. I believe it was a gamble not to play Theodore against the Islander and then play Backs against the Rangers and I was right. Now the coaching staff is in a gambling position. You go Theodore and your gambling that he will carry the load if you need him to

Do what the want with the goalies... what team in this league is going to win a playoff game that is reliant on Brunette and Miettenen getting the puck MORE? Any other coaches in the league saying they need to get their 3rd/4th line caliber players the puck more?

connormn: Welcome to reality in the wake of DR. I expect Fletch to continue turning this organization around from the mediocrity we suffered through for so many years. The team literally languished for the latter portion of DR's tenure. Most educated fans would be happy making the playoffs but we're happier to see Fletch didn't make any stupid moves just to make a "splash".

Danthehockeyguru- I have explained this before to everyone, Why bother getting more talent when you not even getting the best out of the talent that you have. Take a look at the stats and tell Mister Know it all what player is actually getting more production now than they had in the past ? Is Fletches only job to find great offensive talent ? Dick Wilson is getting more from Burns but even MA Barker was performing better elsewhere

I'm a big Cal fan and this cheap shot could have resulted in his being out for the rest of the season if not longer. Gillies should have been suspended for the rest of this season. The NHL has to send a more stern message.

bhrnew1lMar. 5, 1110:20 AM

Winnie: remember in school when someone was suspended for fighting, usually it takes two to tango and usually one person is agitating the situation and made the whole thing happen. Clutter seems to be getting other players in trouble on a regular basis so please lets not see him as innocent in this matter

washburnlkMar. 5, 1110:24 AM

Simply said, we overpayed Backstrom. You might as well put Zanon out for shootouts and while he can be spectacular,at times he lacks focus. I'm not saying he's not a very good goalie, just that we have way too much cap tied up in good not great players. If anyone was interested I would have traded him and put some scoring in front of Theodore, hard to win games when you can't get more tha 20 shots a game.
