Nystrom returns to his roots on Long Island

  • Article by: MICHAEL RUSSO , Star Tribune

Eric Nystrom's dad, Bob, is "Mr. Islander," known for his tenacious play. The team's leadership award is called the "Bob Nystrom Award." To this day, "Mr. Islander" stops for pizza or bagels and the place comes to a halt.

Oh Great Nystrom has already touched the Cup! He is cursed and will never win it now! Fletcher you better trade him. In all seriousness great article and I really like the way Nystrom plays the game. Hopefully once we get all our horses we can get some continuity to all of our lines.

Nice. I remember some of those guys. Potvin, Bossy, Trottier, Billy Smith the fighting goalie, etc. They were the bomb. Four in a row!! Well, that'll never happen again, what with cap. Actually, it's hard to believe it ever happened back then! GO WILD!! FEED NYSTROM!! :)

Michael, You are the best. This story is among the best features you've written, up there with the Bill Nyrop tribute & the Nick Schultz/ his father. Thanks for showing the human side of the terrific Nystrom family. With appreciation from Russoville. Thanks, M03

I like Nystrom. Yeah he's not going to score 30 goals a year, but that's not his job. I believe it when I hear players talk about how good of a guy he is in the locker room. He's a good defensive forward, can chip in a few goals, and most importantly, always gives 100%. That's what you need your 4th-liners to do. A friend of mine (Flames fan) said that he was really disappointed that Nystrom didn't re-sign with the Flames. There's not many 4th-liners that I would be bummed to not re-sign.

Hey armymom1, we are on the back to back Mr. Know nothing. So like when Theodore won in Anaheim single handedly, that's what he is referring to. And to the guy who says who cares about the fluffy stuff. You're probably a 35-year-old guy with no real career and eating donuts in your 2002 Minnesota Wild tee shirt that should have been thrown out 7 years ago. -Great Story sir, love these.
