Francisco Liriano's shoulder problems stem from him not keeping up with strengthening exercises during the offseason.

I remember Chang from the WBC. He seemed like a solid SS for them. He hit in the 3-hole for them, if I remember correctly. Anyway, not a good thing to hear that Liriano wasn't lifting all winter. It's interesting how some of these ballplayers can fail to do the simplest things at this level - like exercise!

These guys have no work ethic, just like the fat Yankee pitchers... Joba & Colon...very obese!

"These guys have no work ethic, just like the fat Yankee pitchers." Who are the "these guys?" The article said Liriano's shoulder was related to failure to do the prescribed exercises, it didn't say anything about anyone else which would maybe justify use of the plural. Also, Liriano may have had a lapse this winter, but it's hard to attack the entire work ethic of a guy who has come back from reconstructive surgery until you have more evidence than one winter's lapse.

lack of conditioning is a problem for just about every pitcher on this staff. Find any common denominator?

A pitcher with arm injuries through the minors and Tommy John elbow surgery in 2006 doesn't have enough discipline to do a few shoulder exercises in the off-season where he has nothing but time. Free agency is right around the corner in 2012 and this is indicative of his work ethic. Stay far, far away from signing Liriano to a long-term deal.

I would put Liriano in the bullpen, until about May. Maybe by then he will be in shape. Gardy, make these guys take laps or extra road work and weights, if they cannot come to camp in shape.

i don't understand how you can play at the professional level in any sport and not commit yourself to keeping your body in shape? Especially if you are going to rehab an injury.

You can't expect these guys who work every five days from April to October to spend anytime bettering themselves from November to February. There's just not enough money to motivate them.

Liriano can't be bothered to do a few shoulder exercises. This work ethic is what will prevent him from being a great pitcher and keep him in the good catagory. You couldn't pay me enough to do Rick Anderson's job - these guys are not self motivated - have more little aches and pains than carter has pills- can't go longer than 6 innings - these modern day pitchers are something else. Rick you have my sympathy.
