Aside from being harder to run with snowshoes on your feet what is the point of wearing them as you run on a packed trail? It's like driving a 4x4 in downtown Miami. If you really want to enjoy winter strap on a pair of 'shoes and get OFF the trail.

That is in no way shape or form what you would call 'snowshoeing'. Its running with things on your feet. And not only that, it looks stupid.

To the two previous commentators: 5 bucks says the guy could kick your ass; don't criticize it until you've tried it.

Running in a singlet and running shorts in the dead of winter is a cry for attention. There are soooo many cool weather options that don't require exposing bare skin to the elements.

For the first two posters, as far as I know, neither you nor the guy in the article define what snowshoeing is. Believe it or not, the is such a thing as the United States Snowshoeing Association. I'm guessing they probably know what snowshoeing is, and these people are participating and promoting this sport, whatever one would call it. They are out there exercising, staying fit, and encouraging others to do the same. How is that a bad thing? As for the third poster, I don't know if the guy could kick the butts of the first two posters, but it sure looks like the woman can. A Google search shows she's a current masters rowing world champion and a former age group world champion duathlete and national age group triathlon silver medalist (but I guess none of those are sports either, Olympics aside.....)

Real runners run.....

Snowshoes were developed to provide floatation in deep snow. Using them to run on a packed trail has nothing to do with snowshoeing. Yes it's hard and yes it provides a good workout but it's not even close to snowshoeing. It's like a bicycle rider carrying the bike and call it cycling.

Snowshoes aren't just for deep snow. My Atlas snowshoes have claws on the bottom that allow you to walk on slippery surfaces that boots have no chance on -- including ice and some parts of snow packed trails. Anyways, if you're on snowshoes then you're snowshoeing. I don't see what the terrain type has to do with it. Also, if you've never done it, you should try it. Great way to get out into nature during the winter. You can do it without snowshoes but with snowshoes it's a great workout and you don't have to worry about trail conditions. You can rent snowshoes for a buck at some Carver Parks.

LOL......Real runners run. Apparently, triathletes and duathletes do not run??? What's wrong with cross-training?

Looks like a good sitting in the boat waiting for the ice to melt.
