Nowhere is the fascination with birds of prey better understood than at the U's Raptor Center where the majestic birds are admired and nursed back to health.

This operation is an example of the excess that the University has engaged in. Where is the story of the expense of this operation and who is paying for it. Thats fine for Redig to pursue her passions, but she should come up with all the funds to support it. Dont place this burden on poor taxpayers.

"The center is privately funded, and there are opportunities to donate your time, talent and treasure."

"They possess speed, agility, amazing sensory powers, and fearlessness. These are traits most of us envy and admire.'' And they can fly. That's a big one.

For lowerhay... SOME private funds come in to the center, but the overhead costs are fully paid for by taxpayers. Get your facts straight.

gopheraaaa - you imply that you have extensive knowledge of the funding base for the Raptor Center. Please share facts that illustrate your point. The vague "...overhead costs are paid by the taxpayers..." is not very informative and does not bolster your position that this a boondoggle.

Actually you can go to their website and find out where their funds come from. Only 2 % come from the state. The other funds come from the working birds, private funding, endowment funds and tuition.

Please do not free any birds in Goodhue County. If several hundred wind turbines over 400 ft tall are errected it will be certain death!

I don't see why a little tax money for studying wildlife is s such a worthless expenditure of money, esp such a small portion of the center's funding. As an outdoorsman, ameteur naturalist, and conservationist, I think this is a good place to spend money. Better than a new ballpark for a privately owned team, esp when we have perfectly good ones still standing.
