Mandatory IDs are an extremely expensive solution to a virtually non-existent problem. Considering our state's current budget shortfall, this is almost a laughable proposal.

Yet the republicans are up in arms because requiering all to have health insurance is against the constitution. It seems that to republicans, the constitution only applies when they want it to apply.

Democrats call the bill costly and unnecessary, saying it could disenfranchise thousands of college students and senior citizens. Bunk. How much does carding folks keep them out of bars, from buying cigarettes. Every honest citizen has taken the step to proudly vote. It will reinforce everyone's sense of the integrity in the process. What did our recounts cost?

For those who say this is a solution looking for a problem is alot like having speed limits but no police officers. In this way- we can say no one is speeding. Virtually every citizen needs some form of ID to survive in the modern society. It would be a bonus to the poor to get an ID for free. This bill would virtually end all of the debate/trouble around close elections. What are you democrats afraid of???

Interesting that the DFL is opposed to this. I'd be even more interested to know the real reason why.
