You would think Cargill could sell of a percentage as the money is needed for charity, not in one big deal.

It is the proper diversification strategy for the trust, especially after Mosaic has risen 100% in the past year.

An excellent finiancail move, I would say having known the Cargill family for 35 years.

At least it is a tax free sale. I would hate to think our cash heavy state would get any revenue out of this.

Why isn't there an American company looking at buying Mosaic? We complain of all the foreign investment that takes place here but not one company to step up.They all must be to busy investing in China.

jillgolf: The share distribution is tax-free, but subsequent sales by the recipients of the Mosaic shares will likely result in taxable capital gains. Cargill is following the law. If you don't like it, ask your representative and/or senators to change the law.

Two great companies separating. All my best to both Cargill and Mosaic during the transaction... now if only I had 20 billion to buy Mosaic I would!

The article states that "the tax free nature of the deal will make Mosiac a more difficult company to acquire". It would be great to know why this is the case.
