just going to get worse..no everyone loves their car
I believe the Northstar decline, but I refuse to believe that ridership on the Hiawatha line went up. I drive on 55 every morning and afternoon during rush hour and when I'm sitting in standstill traffic I look over and see the LRT heading downtown with NO ONE ON IT! No one takes the LRT and we don't need one. The only thing more dumb than another train is MnDOT expanding the interstate system.
Perhaps more North Metro riders would use the light rail if the last returning train was later than 7 PM. It would be nice to enjoy a night downtown then use the light rail to return home around bar close.
Shut the Northstar down and shelve other rail proposals. We can't afford them and they don't work. Nice attempt by the progressives/socialists at social engineering while driving us into bankruptcy.
Your Tax money at work!!!!Light Rail is a flush of funds!!!
No surprise here...Northstar riders are suburbanites looking for an easy means into the destination events (i.e. TWINS), while Hiawatha provides more access to people who don't have cars or don't want to drive for every day tasks...
Maybe ridership will explode if the legislature gets enough guts to extend the line to St. Cloud.
Light rail is doing fine--it goes from somewhere people want to be to somewhere else people want to be and people use it. North Star goes from somewhere people want to be to Big Lake. Extend it to St. Cloud or shut it down.
I use a bus to light rail combo everyday to get to work, 5 times a week. I'd use the Northstar to light rail but only having 5 Northstar trains in/out of downtown that are spread 30-45 minutes apart is horrible scheduling.
I would suspect that some issues with the Northstar is the times it is available. I looked at riding the Northstar to some Twins games and the times didn't work out very well, whereas the Light Rail runs contineously.
