This is where increased govt regulation comes from. It is sad that companies make such egregious decisions sometimes that the govt has to step in. This decision was about money plain and simple. She wanted to work, was able to work, but it was financially more expedient for the company to jettison her. The sad thing is that I am sure when they are selling their care services to customers, they market themselves as a caring company. I agree whole-heartedly that the ADA is burdensome and costly to businesses, especially small businesses with few employees. But this regulation could be avoided by 'common-sense' decisions by conglomerates looking only at the bottom line.

This business practice goes on ALL the time. It's cheaper to fire and then settle, which essentially gives the victim some severance. The victim then turns to government for programs. The wealthy just keep adding to their wealth and all a faction can do is narrowly focus on big bad government. Go figure.

C'mon Bachmann, tell me again how we need to get gov't regulation out of the way of Big Business!

Repubs always tell us that we shouldn't trust government but rely on the good grace of big business. Never love a corporation because they won't love you back.

I can speak with credibility here as this situation happened to me. Wells Fargo terminated my employment after being diagnosed with cancer. Although they would never come right out and say this my feeling is that I was no longer insurable due to my condition and suddenly I was no longer wanted or needed. They behaved exceptionally sleazy during this time as I was called while I was recovering from surgery in intensive care and notified that my position had been eliminated. Wells claims that "people are their competitive advantage." I found out the hard way that that is pure BS.

I hope that Maxim Healthcare Services pays dearly for this obvious wrongful firing. Not only the backpay and insurance for both her and her husband, but also a good amount for pain, suffering and punitive damages.

perks, I did my best to protect an employee, and a cancer survivor, from termination and it cost me my job.

What part do you people NOT GET? Republicans believe in SMALLER GOVERNMENT. Not NO GOVERNMENT!! Obviously, there are instances where government is necessary. Why don't you educate yourselves and stop just blowing rhetoric without having a clue what you are talking about?

What a tremendously sad story; it's like something out of Shakespeare. I feel awful for the daughter. Best wishes to her and to those involved. Kudos to Mr Williams for taking on the challenge of raising a child and trying to do it well. There is a special place in hell for corporations and their executives that do this.

Please glamorousviv, enlighten us as to what government regulations the right supports. If you talk to a Republican, they hate OSHA because it costs money to make a workplace safe. They tend to be against all government programs unless it personally benefits themselves. Six of the nine tea party candidates received farm subsidies last year. That includes Bachmann who recently swore that she didn't receive a penny, but her financial statement (where she actually can't lie) says she received between 15 and 50 thousand. Can anyone say hypocrite?
