Maine was the first State to include pets in protective or restraining orders and many states have followed. If MN does not have such a law work with your State Government to enact one. Also encourage family shelters to work with local Animal welfare groups to shelter family pets when abuse victims finally leave their abusers. It is amazing how many women will not leave an abusive situation because they can not take the cat or dog to a shelter. In many cases they can but just don't know it. Report cruelty.
