Pretty interesting. It creates the dilemma of rooting for rival teams - Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl for example - because it's better for the Big 10. But rooting for the Badgers seems so wrong.

The amazing thing is this: I read an article in a recent issue of Sports Illustrated about the BCS versus a Playoff Series. Michigan AD said, (paraphrase here), "...We missed a bowl game for two years in a row and made money as a result..." Making a Bowl Game is good for the fans, but the teams that do that lose money because of the need for "guaranteed ticket sales" to those games. Very interesting synopsis.

What's good for the Badgers and Hawkeyes is in no way, shape, or form good for the Gophers. There is never a reason to cheer for them unless they need to beat someone for us, or when you cheer for the Badgers to beat Iowa, because Iowa fans are more obnoxious and intolerable than the Badgers. Unless you are trying to get a BCS slot or a National Title, conference prominence means little to the middle of the pack and lower. There is NO gain for us from our rivals succeeding, other than us being able to say "We beat Iowa, who beat #12 in their next game." (Though it's mostly because they were all high at the time.)
